Happy Holiness

When we receive a text message, often we only interpret the words without grasping the heart or tone behind them. This can lead to unnecessary emotions like anger or disappointment. Similarly, when we read Scripture, if we miss the heart of God behind the words, we might misinterpret them and feel discouraged or offended. For instance, in 1 Peter 1:16, it says, “Be holy, for I am Holy.” Without understanding God’s heart, we might interpret it as a harsh command, feeling inadequate or judged. However, the intention is to remind us of our created purpose for holiness and a close relationship with God.
Our concept of holiness may be tainted by a religious mindset, resembling the Pharisees who strived for holiness out of duty rather than joy. Yet, God desires us to experience “Happy Holiness” – being deeply fascinated with Him, enjoying our relationship with Him, and finding pleasure in His presence. True joy, peace, and pleasure come from a relationship with God. Happy Holiness involves being so captivated by God that we willingly say no to anything that might hinder our relationship with Him.
Resisting sin isn’t just about sheer willpower; it’s about being enamored with God, which empowers us to resist temptation joyfully. As Jesus said in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” By staying connected to God through prayer and focusing on His love and beauty, we strengthen our spirits and find it easier to resist temptation.
When we stumble, we repent, rise, and continue following the Lord wholeheartedly, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. As we draw closer to Him, He draws closer to us, empowering us to walk in His ways. It’s like the hymn says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” By fixing our gaze on Jesus, the distractions of the world fade away, and we are supernaturally empowered to live abundantly and victoriously.
In conclusion, Happy Holiness isn’t about strict adherence to rules but about delighting in God’s presence and allowing His love to transform us. So, let’s keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, experiencing the joy and fulfillment that come from walking closely with Him.
God bless you all.
